Guidelines’ first Legacy Project, our community-based Christian radio station, Radio, DZRK on the Philippine island of Palawan has completed 6 months of broadcast service. Community volunteers staff the station and deepest thanks to Guidelines’ supporters comes from Dr. Susie Cayaon, of the Luke Society Clinic, DZRK’s community partner. DZRK sits adjacent to the Clinic, which provides urgently needed medical assistance to this humble, rural community. Dr. Susie is able to share health information over the airwaves of DZRK and Dr. Susie’s husband, Pastor Ben Cayaon, leads the consortium of local pastors who produce Bible-based programming for the station.
Prayers needs of the tiny station include:
- A local radio technician
- More volunteers
- More training for all volunteers
- More listeners
- That those who listen to DZRK may have a personal relationship with the Lord.
Guidelines 2nd Legacy Project station will be planted in the city of Tacloban, epicenter of Hurricane Yolanda in the fall of 2013. An application for a broadcast license is currently being processed by the Philippine government.
A largely Muslim area of the Philippine island of Mindanao will be the location of the 3rd Guidelines Legacy Project—in Delabayan in Lanao del Sur. This community has been wracked with violence in recent years and programming will be focused on peace-building initiatives and education. An evangelical community partner has been identified but must remain unnamed for security purposes.
Each of these projects brings the gospel to an area that has been a “deaf spot” to the reach of the gospel. We praise God for this opportunity to reach communities that would otherwise be forgotten….in God’s economy, sometimes smaller is better.
