Muslims are listening…in Turkey

Radio Shema calls itself “the sound of love and peace.”

That is a sound that is desperately needed in the country of Turkey. Wedged between east and west, Muslim Turkey finds itself increasingly ravaged by brutal terror, as recently as just last week. Although it may be difficult or even cost you your life to be a Christian in Turkey, the country’s constitution protects freedom of religion. At least that’s for now!  And so, Turkey presents a unique open door for the Gospel to be proclaimed to an entire country virtually unreached and untouched by the Gospel.

We praise God that Radio Shema will now begin to translate, produce and air the Guidelines Commentary throughout Turkey.   Soner Tufan and his team at Radio Shema are willing to run the risk, despite death threats. Tufan has labored for 17 years to bring the Gospel over the airwaves to his country, even personally arguing for the right to read the Bible on air, in a case brought before the Turkish Supreme Court.

“We must enter into the spiritual battle, says Tufan.  “It is not enough to enter with broadcast alone, or with a good program or with good music or even with a strong infrastructure.  We must enter the battle with prayer!  Prayer that will prepare the hearts of the people that will hear the broadcasts.”

POTENTIAL IMPACT: Radio Shema has an audience reach of nine million. Less than 1% of Turkey’s 77 million people have been reached with the Gospel.

COST:  $15,600 per year for Turkish translation, production and air-time.  Radio Shema will carry the Encouraging Words program in English at no cost.  When funds are provided, we will translate and produce Encouraging Words in Turkish as well.

RADIO REACHES THEM:  It’s a safe way for a Muslim listener to learn about the hope of the Gospel and connect with believers.

Will you pray for God to work in the hearts of the Turkish people, and for protection for Soner Tufan, his team and their families?
