You Never Know…
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21
Debbie and I had a business meeting planned over coffee. I had my agenda in mind, my materials with me when, not a few moments into our conversation, I realized what the real purpose of our meeting was to be. “My twin sister just committed suicide,” she said. Suddenly, everything changed. Nothing mattered more to me in that moment than listening to my colleague. I listened and prayed with her. I don’t know if the original business arrangement I wanted to propose that day will ever come about, but I know that God’s purpose for my meeting that day was to show His love to a hurting person.
The Bible says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21). God is bigger than I am. I see in the here and now, a finite landscape, limited by my resources and capabilities. But God, God in my life changes everything. “We never know what God has up His sleeve,” said writer Elisabeth Eliott, “You never know what might happen; you only know what you have to do now.” When I concentrate on doing the best with what I have to do now, I can trust God to make more, so much more of my life. And you can too.
“In their hearts humans plan their course,” Proverbs 16:9 says, “but the Lord establishes their steps.” You can trust God to guide and direct you into a life of significance!
