You Can Rest And Work At The Same Time
Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | Not long ago a friend asked me how to find rest in busyness. That’s a very practical topic that most of us find ourselves dealing with quite often. And the interesting thing is that about the same time I got this request, I came across a verse in Psalm 68 that applies to that very situation. Verse 19 (NLT) says, “Praise the Lord; praise God our Savior! For each day He carries us in his arms.” I had never even given thought to the fact that God carries us in His arms. And notice that He says He holds us “each day.” Yes, every single day!
Have you ever held a toddler in your arms who didn’t want to be carried? The little one wiggled and squirmed so much you were afraid you were going to drop him or her. You felt like saying, “Just calm down—relax—you’ll be fine. You’re safe in my arms.”
Maybe God wants to say that very thing to us today. You’re thinking, “But Darlene, you don’t know how busy I am today. I have an enormous number of tasks to accomplish today.”
I’m sure that’s true. But you can only do one thing at a time. And because our Heavenly Father is all-powerful, He can hold you in His arms at the same time you do that one task that you need to do next. Yes, I think it’s possible to rest and work at the same time. While we’re doing our work, we can trust God to hold us, support us, comfort us, and meet our needs. We can know that He is firmly carrying us close to His heart.
Today thank Him for the fact that you can rest in Him even while you are working. For He truly carries you in His arms.
