Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine Isaiah 43:1

Ever noticed how far the distance can be from your head to your heart? In our minds, we know that God is all-powerful and able to protect us yet calming down our nerves isn’t always easy.

It’s hard to be unafraid when we’re in the middle of a frightening situation. What changes things when it comes to fear is not just knowing about God, but knowing Him, understanding God who says, and has proved, that He loves us. The Bible book of Isaiah says, chapter 43, verse 1, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”  God gives a simple and compelling reason to trust Him in your fears; if you are a follower of Jesus, you belong to Him. He says He has freed us, purchased us with a price, and called us to be His. Because we are His and valued by Him, He always has our highest and best in mind.

Who would you trust more: a stranger who says, “Don’t worry, I’ve got your back!” or a loved one who has demonstrated their steadfast commitment to you over and over again?

You can grow in this confidence by intentionally seeking to know God more personally. He says, “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me” (Jeremiah 29:13). Each morning, think of one characteristic of God that brings you comfort. How have you seen God move in faithfulness in your life? How has He communicated His love to you? Then throughout the day, watch for the ways you see God present in your life. You can trust Him in your fears because you’re His.
