But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13

“In our world, the idea of ultimate truth — something that is true at all times in all places and has relevance for our lives — is about as extinct as the dinosaur,”[1] points out Lindy Keffer.  But Jesus Christ talked about truth and claimed that He was “the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6).  What’s more, He said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free!” (John 8:32). But what is this truth and how can we come to know it, as Jesus said was possible?  Jesus’ own words and Scripture say this: ultimate truth exists, and God’s spirit leads seekers into the Truth.

To begin, the most important critical truth we need to find is in the message of the gospel.  I love how Tim Keller puts it: “We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”[2]

This is the truth that sets us free but what’s more, the Bible speaks truth to all kinds of circumstances we face in life.  In fact, the word truth and concept of truth appears in the Bible more than 200 times. Scripture says that the Holy Spirit of God supernaturally helps us to understand and know truth as we continue to seek it from God, from Scripture and as God reveals it, for example, through discoveries of science.

Searching for truth?  Start with the person of Jesus.
