You Are Fully Known and Fully Loved
O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. Psalm 139:1
To know me is to love me is an old cliché. But, closer to the truth for most of us might be “I can’t ever let you know what’s really inside me.”
Look deep down inside yourself, and what will you find? An honest answer, no matter where or when you’re living, would probably include fear, insecurity, pain…longing. We feel that it’s not always safe to let others know, really know us. But here’s the surprising thing about God. He says: You are fully known and fully loved. In fact, there’s an entire poem or psalm in the Bible that describes just how well God knows and loves you.
Psalm 139 opens like this: O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me” (139:1). Everything includes when you sit or stand. When you travel or sit at home. What you’re going to say before you even say it. Even what you’re thinking and feeling.
Sherry Worel writes, “He wanders through the caverns of our heart and shines His flashlight into every crevice, nook and corner. He is aware of our actions and attitudes. He knows what motivates us and why we might want to give up or give in. He is totally prepared to discuss or deal with absolutely anything in our lives.”[1]
Not only can you bring anything to Him, God has already been thinking about you and the issues of your life. Psalm 139:17 says, “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered.” Read Psalm 139 for yourself to get an idea of how fully known and fully loved you are.
