When You Don’t Know Which Way To Go
Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | You’re confronted with a crucial decision and you don’t know which way to go. You search your Bible—you pray—you look for God’s direction but you can’t seem to find an answer. You cry out, “God, I was following You. Where did You go? Where do I go now?” The crisis you face is like a vast ocean in front of you—and you know there are no paths to follow in oceans! You feel like a blind person groping your way.
The Israelites understood exactly how you feel. When they left Egypt following those painful years of slave labor, it wasn’t very long before they too reached a crisis: the Red Sea was squarely in front of them—and there was no bridge to cross on. You know what happened: God parted the Red Sea and Moses led the people through on dry land.
I noticed an interesting phrase in Psalm 77, verse 19: “Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.” It’s that last part that stood out to me: “Your footprints were not seen.”
Say, that’s where you are now, right? You have to move forward but you can’t see God’s footprints to follow—almost as if you were blind. Well, there’s a special promise for you in Isaiah 42, verse 16:
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.
What a great assurance! So long as you want to do God’s will 100%, take the next step by faith, trusting that God will guide you even as He said in this verse. You don’t have to see ahead—just take the next step, and along unfamiliar paths He will guide you. He promised!
