One billion dollars.  That’s the amount of money spent on romance fiction each year.

Human beings believe in romance.  We want to believe that another person will bring us joy and meet our need to be loved. Hopefully each of us does get to experience a bit of romance, but disappointment in human love is eventually certain. To be fair, human relationships weren’t designed to do what only God can do in our lives. In fact, relationships between men and women invariably improve when we look to God’s love to meet our deepest needs.

“Get into the habit of saying, ‘Speak, Lord,'” wrote Oswald Chambers, “and life will become a romance.”[1] Our deepest need for love is met when we learn to develop the habit of going to God and waiting. God’s longing to love and care for us, and our propensity to look everywhere else but Him, will often mean He uses circumstances to press us to His side. Once there, you will find his book, the Bible, is written as a love letter to you, intimately applicable to you, addressing your deepest needs.

Unlike human love, His love does not fail; His love alone is everlasting! His hands are the only safe place for your heart.  “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. (Jeremiah 31:3b) Run to Him today and cry out like the Psalm writer: “Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love.” (Psalm 90:14)

Yes, speak, Lord, that we may experience life’s greatest romance.
