There’s A Unique Purpose For Your Life

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:10-11

We often think of “a calling” as something that sounds too extreme for us, like perhaps becoming a very religious monk and living in a monastery.  But, in fact, when you are a follower of Jesus Christ, He does have a beautiful purpose for your life, what we might refer to as a calling, that uses your gifts and desires!

The purpose of God’s call on your life is to change the world and the people in it.  Think you couldn’t possibly do this?  Think again.  You can, because God made each of us able to contribute in our own way.

Imagine three circles that overlap.  One circle is labeled What You Love.  A second is called What the World Needs and a third, What You Are Good At.  The things that you love, are good at and can get paid for after you have some training, result in your profession. But the things that you naturally love, gifts that the world needs, and things you can get paid to do, result in a vocation.

If you’re not sure what you are naturally good at, ask friends!  They may recognize your gifts even when you don’t, because they come so naturally to you.  We don’t have to be “good enough” for God to call us (see the Bible book of I Corinthians 7:20). God knows both your gifts and your shortcomings. Look for and follow God’s call on your life. You will be transformed, and He will enable you to radically bless others.
