Six Truths To Free You From Regret
The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way? Proverbs 20:24 NLT
Do you live with regrets? So often we are haunted by what could have been–if only we had listened, if only tragedy had passed us by, if only we hadn’t said that! Regrets can imprison us. Obsessing over our regrets comes from the false belief that we’re in control of everything. We imagine that if we had made different choices, we could have navigated past everything we don’t like in life. We’re ignoring that God has a hand in our steps.
Make a list of all of your regrets and circle it. Then, label the circle “The Providence of God.” God is greater than all of our regrets. If you are in personal relationship with God, here are six truths from Scripture about His involvement in your life:
The timing of all events in your life are in God’s hand. There’s no such thing as too late or too early. (Psalm 31:15)
He has determined where and when you will live, the timing of your birth and death. (Acts 17:26, Deuteronomy 32:39)
You make your plans, but God determines your steps. (Proverbs 16:9, 19:21)
Your future is in His hands. (Psalm 31:15)
If something is of God, you can’t overthrow it, including God’s plan for your life. (Acts 5:39)
Riches or honor in your life come from God (1 Chronicles 29:12).
Regrets lose their imprisoning power when we remember that the Christ-follower lives within the circle of God’s providence.
