And the King will say, I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me! Matthew 25:40

Have you heard it said, “People don’t care about what you know, they want to know how much you care?

When he was a missionary in India, Doug Nichols contracted tuberculosis and was sent to a sanitarium. There, Doug tried to talk to some of the patients about following Jesus, but the patients wanted nothing to do with him or his God.  Doug began to wonder why God had allowed him to be there anyway.
Early one morning Doug noticed an old man trying to sit up but falling back because of weakness.  Exhausted, the old man finally lay still and sobbed.  The scene was repeated next day.  A stench began to permeate the ward: the old man had been unsuccessfully trying to get up and go to a restroom.

The nurses were extremely agitated over the mess, Doug said. One slapped the man in anger.  The embarrassed man curled up into a ball and wept.

Early next morning Doug rose and gently carried the man to the rest room. Speaking in his native tongue, the man thanked Doug profusely, and then gently kissed him on the cheek.

Later that day, Doug awakened to a steaming cup of tea served to him by another patient.  That man made motions indicating that he wanted one of the Gospel of John booklets Doug had.

“Throughout the day,” says Doug, “people came to me, asking for the Gospel booklets.  This included the nurses and doctors, until everyone in the hospital had a booklet.”  Over the next few days, several decided they wanted to follow Doug’s Jesus.

Yes, when people know you really care for them, then they want to know your Jesus.
