Run To God For Comfort

Speaker:

Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | After our grandson Christian was born, I gave his mother, Cheryl, a soft robe.  Within a few months, however, Christian had decided that her new robe was what he wanted to hold when he needed comfort. Now, Cheryl still wanted her robe, so she simply cut 12 inches or so off the bottom for Christian to enjoy, which meant she still had a robe to wear. The problem was that while Christian was okay with having “little robe” with him in the car, he wanted “big robe” in his crib when he went to sleep at night. Being the grandma, my solution was to buy Cheryl another robe.

As adults, we’d evoke some strange looks if we carried around a robe or blanket with us for comfort. But that doesn’t mean we don’t need comforting at times. God knows that. In the Bible He is called “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). He wants us to run to Him for consolation when the circumstances of life are more than we can handle.

Many times we don’t avail ourselves of the comfort that we could enjoy if we’d just put aside our high and mighty independence and ask God for help.  There’s an old hymn that says,

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer![1]

Don’t be ashamed to call on God for comfort when your heart is aching and you can find no relief.  “The Father of compassion and the God of all comfort” waits for you with open arms. Run to Him and let Him hold you close to His heart.  He cares about you.
