O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

God is unlike us in many ways. For example, we get physically tired, but God never does. We grow discouraged, yet God knows the end from the beginning and never yields to discouragement. Our lives are regulated by time, but God is not confined to time and space.

It’s good for us to grow and change for the better. But, did you know that God does not change for the better? God doesn’t change at all, because God has always been complete. Jesus grew in stature during His time on Earth, and yet Jesus was already complete because He contained the fullness of God (Colossians 2:9). The Bible says we are created in the image of this unchanging God, yet we do not contain this same fullness. How then, are we like God?

One trait we share with God because we are made in God’s image is that of longing. God longs and desires to have fellowship with His creation. That means with us! That is why God used to walk with Adam and Eve in the Garden. In turn, each of us longs to be made complete through fellowship with our Maker. The Bible book of 1 John says this is possible.  Listen:  “If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:5-7).
