Learn How To Be Like Jesus

Speaker:

Candy wrote,

“Today I lost my wallet! And I put a big bald spot in my husband’s hair! Do you ever have those days where your brain is just not functioning properly???!!! This was me today…. but amidst it all, kindness shone so bright that I have to share about it.”

How did Candy lose her wallet? It happened when after she made a stop to buy her favorite bread, she set her wallet on top of the car—and drove off.  The happy ending to that story is that about an hour later, the kindhearted couple who found the wallet drove it all the way to Candy’s house. “Such kindness blew me away,” she said.

And the bald spot in her husband’s hair? That happened later that day when she forgot to put the guard on the shears—and shaved a bald spot on the side of his head. What was her husband’s response? Candy said he just smiled and said, “Now, what’s your plan to fix this?” and they were able to laugh as she made the best of a new hair style for him.

Candy said she learned two great lessons that day. First, she learned what a difference we can make when we go out of our way to show kindness. And from her husband she learned what a difference we can make when we show others grace when they make mistakes.

The apostle Paul summed it up when he wrote, “.…clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you” (Colossians 3:12, 13 NLT). Lord, help me to be more like You—to do the kind thing whether or not it’s convenient for me, and to be quick to forgive those who make mistakes that cause me distress.
