How We Can Overcome Unbelief
If we are faithless, He remains faithful. 2 Timothy 2:13
If you love Jesus, it can be scary, confusing, and feel embarrassing to experience doubt. Thankfully, Jesus himself is a good listener to our questions about Him, and He answers some of them in the Bible for us. In Mark 9, Jesus interacted with a man who was desperate for his son to be delivered from an evil spirit. “Anything is possible if a person believes,” Jesus said to him and “the father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!'” (Mark 9:19-29).
How do we overcome unbelief? “You will seek Me and find Me,” God told the Israelites. “When you search for Me with all your heart, I will be found by you” (Jeremiah 29:13-14). Part of searching with all our hearts includes asking God hard questions. Do you have a hard question for God? Searching with all your heart does not always yield immediate, easy answers. It may take time. Yet, the search itself is can lead us to see God’s presence in places we never thought to look. Do you have a hard question for God?
Even when we have no faith, God remains faithful to us (2 Timothy 2:13). In fact, the Apostle Paul reminds us of God’s commitment to us, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me” (Romans 10:20, Isaiah 65:1 NIV). Do not stop asking questions – instead, push on for answers in Christ Jesus. He will help us overcome our unbelief.
