How To Reroute When You’re Off Track

Our steps are made firm by the Lord, when he delights in our way; though we stumble, we shall not fall headlong, for the Lord holds us by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24

Have you ever been driving somewhere and made a wrong turn?  Or maybe you were taking public transportation and, deep in thought, you hopped on the wrong bus or train.  It’s a terrible feeling, as you realize you’re moving faster and faster away from where you really wanted to go!

What you have to do, is to reroute!  You’ve got to stop moving in the direction you’re currently heading, assess where you’re at now and figure out how to get going back to where you really wanted to go.  From time to time, making a wrong turn or a wrong decision—stumbling—happens to all of us spiritually as well.

The good news—no, the great news– is that God knows we will need to reroute.  The Bible likens us to sheep, saying “All we like sheep have gone astray” (Isaiah 53:6).  When you’re a follower of Jesus and you find yourself off course, Jesus continues to hold you firmly by the hand.  “Though we stumble,” Psalm 37 says, “we shall not fall headlong, for the Lord holds us by the hand” (Psalm 37:24). He will forgive and reroute us, when we submit to His leading.

Are you feeling discouraged over a stumble?  Reroute, right now!  Here’s how we can pray together:

“God, you are our support and light.  You are there for us, guiding our steps.  Help us to trust your leading, loosening our grip on our lives so that you can direct us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.”[1]
