How to Age Well
Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words
Okay, okay, I admit it. I’m a senior. And I don’t always wake up in the morning bounding in energy these days. My responsibilities have certainly changed from the days of parenting young children. And while Harold and I travel a good deal in ministry, I do have more hours at home than I used to.
In this period I find I need special verses from the Bible for encouragement. I found some of those the other day in Psalm 143.
In verse 8 David said, “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.” Isn’t it great to know first thing in your day that God loves you with a steadfast love! He doesn’t cast you off for a new model. What better way to begin?
Then in verse 10 he prays, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!” Yes, Lord, make it plain. Each moment help me do what You call “important.” Life is too precious to waste.
I love the last phrase of that verse, “Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” In these later years, I find it takes a lot more energy to climb stairs, climb mountains or, in fact, climb anything that runs up hill. So, God, please lead me on level ground. I’m so glad You match Your will for our lives with our present capabilities. You won’t ask us to do what we can’t do.
Well, there you have it–some encouraging words for you who are seniors. And if you happen to be still in your twenties or thirties, just be assured that at every stage in life God will be there for you. You don’t have to dread the aging process because He has plans for you and will always be with you and direct your life.
