Here’s How God Cares
Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | You’ve probably heard the saying, “People don’t care how much you know–until they know how much you care.” It’s true, isn’t it.
Let’s say that I have a problem with my computer. No matter how hard I try, I can’t fix it. As I sit there in front of a blank screen struggling and getting increasingly frustrated, along comes a guy who has a degree in computer science. He stops at my desk and takes a look at what I’m doing. Almost immediately he figures out the problem. He tells me what is wrong—but then he walks off leaving me to continue my struggle—except that I’m more frustrated than ever. This guy knows what the problem is—but he doesn’t care enough to help me. He only wants me to know how smart he is.
I’m so glad that God is not like that. He who has all knowledge also cares deeply. His heart is full of compassion for us. Isaiah pictured him as a gentle shepherd who tends his flock, “He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young” (Isaiah 40:11).
When Jesus Himself was here on earth, “he saw the crowds, [and] he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).
Notice one more depiction of God’s care and concern for us. Speaking of the nation of Israel, Jesus shows us His heart when He cries out, “How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Luke 13:34).
Friend, I hope you will think of God not only as the One who knows all but the One who cares more than any other. God not only knows the facts of your situation but He sympathizes with you. He cares. Find comfort today in His love. Let Him gather you under His wings.
