Finding Hope in Waiting: Trusting the Way Maker
For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:19
What would you do, when doing the right thing means discomfort or even suffering?
Chris and Kelli are in love. In fact, they’re engaged, but they can’t get married. You see, Chris was born on one continent and Kelli on another. Visa applications, forms, fees and interviews are only resulting in more waiting and more uncertainty. They could marry and one of them work illegally for cash. But Chris and Kelli are followers of Jesus, and they know His words: “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31b-32). This couple is making the hard choice to depend on God for His way through.
When we have problems in life, we search for a solution that will bring us relief in the shortest amount of time possible. We might even earnestly pray that God would bring that solution to pass– and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, scripture says, “…you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” (James 4:2b).
But, in insisting on getting the solution we think we need now, there’s the potential to miss God’s much more fabulous way. The Bible says that God, “…is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20b).
Waiting on God, with a problem? He says, “…I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland” (Isaiah 43:19).
The God of the Bible is a way maker. You can trust Him in painful times of waiting.
