The little reminders were here and there, left in places where Shawna would see them often.  On each sticky note the letters “BTP” were scribbled. What were these mysterious messages all about?

BTP stands for Be the Person!  Shawna explained, “I need to be constantly reminded simply to be the person that God made me to be, and nobody else!” In a world that relentlessly seeks to define us, Shawna is so wise to realize that it takes constant intention to be the person God created us to be, and nobody else.

The Bible book of Isaiah reminds us that, like clay in the hand of a potter, “We are all formed by [God’s] hand” (Isaiah 64:9). Hand-crafted pottery is unique.  According to the potter’s mind and will, no two vessels will be quite the same under the pressure of His hand.  He knows just what purpose His signature piece will be perfect for; something definite was in mind when He designed and formed you.

There’s a knitting theme used in the book of Psalms, where it says, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13). God’s hands have been intimately involved in your life from before your first breath. He says that you are His “handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for [you] to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

There is nothing more satisfying in life than being just the person God created you to be. Those good works will flow out of being. Stop listening to others who are telling you who you should be and…as Shawna put it:  Be the person, and nobody else!
