As If It Never Happened
And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5
An insurance company ran commercials in what they called their “Get You Back Where You Belong” campaign. One began with a red convertible car rising up out of the ocean and flying up onto a cliff, where the car had been parked. A smiling man had been leaning against the car, posing for a photo, when the car had begun to roll and propelled off the cliff. The idea was that this brand of insurance was so good that it would put your life back together, as if the disaster had never happened.
In a simplistic way, this is a picture of the coming restoration promised in God’s book, the Bible, and this is the hope of the follower of Jesus Christ. God’s promise is that He will make all things new, and it will be as good as if the bad had never happened.
The writer of the book of Revelation says, “‘I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old…had disappeared… God’s home is now among his people! … He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’ And the one sitting on the throne said, ‘Look! I am making everything new!'” (Revelation 21:1,3-5).
A better earth, not just a recycled one, is coming. The One who will make everything new longs for you to know Him today; “…he is not far from any one of us” (Acts 17:27).
