I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

 

When we talk about leaders, we often think of the smartest, most powerful, most talented, most charismatic people. What if you are not the best at anything? Perhaps you feel inadequate for leadership.

In the Bible, God called Moses to a tremendous task: leading an entire people group out of bondage. At the time of God’s call, Moses was a fugitive murderer. He also self-identified as tongue-tied and worried that people would not believe God had appointed him. He argued with God repeatedly about his ability to lead others. God argued back, “Go now, I am sending you. I will be with you” (Exodus 3:10-14).

We read similar encouragement for ourselves in scripture. We are strengthened for what God calls us to by God Himself (Philippians 4:13). “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power,” says Isaiah (Isaiah 40:29). When Moses told God he wasn’t a speaker, God said, “Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say” (Exodus 4:12).

God will never call you to do something without giving you what it is you need to complete the call.  He may not give you all that you think you need, but it will be all that you do need. Most of all, remember that when you lead in God’s strength, you will never be without His presence.  Cultivate a spirit of willingness and when He calls, step out in obedience, knowing you’ll be equipped.
