Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | Do you know God has forgiven you for all the wrong you’ve ever done?  You can know—beyond the shadow of a doubt! The apostle John wrote, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). Let’s talk about how you can be sure.

Most of us are aware that God is perfect. He has never sinned—never done anything wrong. And most of us are equally aware that we have done wrong–we are sinners.  So God has a problem in that He wants us to live with Him forever, but there’s that issue of you and I being sinners.

That is exactly the reason Jesus came to earth—to live and die and pay the price for our sins. He died on the cross in our place. We should have been on that cross because we’ve sinned and should pay the penalty for our sins. But Jesus paid the debt for us.

Paul writes in Romans 5, “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!” (Romans 5:9). Did you notice that phrase “justified by His blood”? That means that with His blood Jesus paid for our sins so that we don’t have to. By simply believing in what He did for us, we find full forgiveness. We don’t have to pretend we never did anything wrong. We don’t have to try to cover up our sins. And one more thought—we don’t have to catch God in a good mood in order for Him to forgive us. Forgiveness is based on a fact of history, not on any mere frame of mind.

Don’t spend another day wondering if you have eternal life. Settle it today by placing your faith in what Jesus did on the cross.  You can KNOW that you have eternal life.
