Abraham grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, being fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.  Romans 4:20-21

The Bible is God’s divine revelation to man, but one of the things that I love most about it, is its depiction of men and women of faith as definitely less than divine.  Real people, with struggles just like you and I face, are God’s people.

Abraham is one such example.  Abraham, the man we find with a knife in his hand, raised above his only son, willing to obey God (Genesis 22) and Abraham, sleeping with his wife’s maidservant, when God was taking too long to provide the heir that had been promised.  Abraham, who, the Bible says, “went out, not knowing where he was going,” when God told him to move to a new land He was going to give him and Abraham, lying about his wife being his sister, so that strangers didn’t kill him to get her.

And how is Abraham described, in the end?  Like this: “Abraham grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, being fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised” (Romans 4:20-21).  Notice that Abraham’s faith was something that was alive and growing, not fully formed at one time.  The key? “He was fully convinced that God was able.”

When trouble strikes (and it will), are you fully convinced that God is able? You have to know someone well to be convinced of their character.  He says to you today, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
