A work deadline was approaching, and I got my laptop mixed up with that of my colleague as I rushed to an appointment.  Later, I panicked when I couldn’t log on to the computer, jumped to conclusions based on some strange circumstances, and notified the police of a suspected data attack.  No such thing had happened.  Next, I knocked over a full cup of coffee.  Finally, I calendared an appointment for the wrong day and then stood a friend up.

Now I bet you’re not as frenzied a mess as I was, but perhaps the message God stopped me with, will help you too. It’s this: This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. … For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!  (Isaiah 30:15)

Scripture is clear:  God is not in a hurry

The job that God sent Jesus to earth to do was the most important ever.  But He sent Jesus as a helpless baby who simply nursed, napped, crawled, and toddled–wasting years until He was fully grown.  But that’s not how God viewed it at all. Scripture says, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52).

Our growth process matters to God. Disaster is near when, in my haste, I ignore His rest, quietness and refuse to wait on Him.
