God has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved son.  Colossians 3:16

Wherever you live in the world, there’s a time of year where the sunshine of summer begins to lessen in its intensity, and you find yourself turning the lights on earlier and earlier.  Perhaps you’ve felt a little sad watching the impending change coming on, knowing that long nights are to come. The darkness has begun its descent and now you won’t have time to walk or enjoy being outdoors much after work or school.

Besides physical darkness, we sometimes struggle with personal darkness, and when we look around at the world we live in, it can also feel like spiritual darkness is closing in. Disease, death and division have become all we hear about.  Here’s the real news though: “God has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved son.” That’s the declaration of the Bible book of Colossians. (Colossians 3:16) God has provided rescue for us through His son, Jesus.  Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12).

Jesus offers you the assurance of knowing that no day will ever be so dark that you will be overcome by it. I’ve got the light of life for you, He says, and best of all, this light “shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:4-5) In the dark today?  Ask Him for the light of life!
