Why Should I Wait On God?

Speaker:

Are you at a crossroads in your life right now?  You’re faced with a decision regarding your future? Perhaps you’ve been laid off your job and don’t know where to go from here. Or perhaps you’re thinking of getting married but you’re not entirely sure if you’ve truly met Mr. or Miss Right-for-you.  God has promised in Psalm 23 that He leads us “in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” But just how do you find that path that God wants you to take?

Bible teacher Dr. F. B. Meyer many years ago wrote,

If you do not know which way to go, wait till you are sensible of the leadings of the Good Shepherd…. It will be a sore mistake and wrong for you to act without being sure of what He wishes you to do. And if you are not sure what that is, it is evident that the time has not come for you to move. Stay just where you are. If you dare to wait, you will be clearly shown your path.[1]

Dr. Meyer is right.  If you don’t know what to do, then wait—yes, stay right where you are until God shows you clearly what path you should take. Most of our mistakes in life are made when we get ahead of God and make decisions for ourselves before we have heard clearly in our hearts what God wants us to do.

In Proverbs chapter 3 the writer says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” If you ask Him, your good Shepherd will lead you in paths that are best for you. He has promised!
