What Do You Believe About God’s Character?

Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. Isaiah 59:1

It is easy for us to grow frustrated and attempt to take things into our own hands when we believe false things about who God is. Being gods of our own lives reveals to us that our own power is not enough to shape life to our wills. The best way to correct our misconceptions about God’s character and the effect those beliefs have on our lives is to study the scriptures where God tells us what He is like.

Some view God as loving, but ultimately weak or disinterested. If He had the power to prevent infant deaths or abuse against the vulnerable, why wouldn’t He use it? Or perhaps God lacks personality or will, a cosmic but directionless, sightless force. The Bible clearly refutes these views.

The God of the Bible personally touches human lives. Most stories in the Bible are to that point. We are reminded that God feeds each bird, and we are more valuable to Him than any bird (Matthew 6:26). The Bible says that we are not always granted insight into God’s timing, yet we know that evil is not from God. The evil man has stooped to is beyond His thinking, says Jeremiah 7:31. When God saw there was no human to save the oppressed, Scripture says He was appalled and saved them by His own arm (Isaiah 59:15-17). He will swallow up death forever (Isaiah 25:8).
When you interpret your life through a proper understanding of God, your life will flourish in strength and hope.
