God’s Big Reason For You
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
My friend Tamara has some unique skills. She can identify airplanes that are soaring overhead, telling me exactly what kind of planes they are. But maybe more interesting than that, she can take down a man twice her size. You see, Tamara was trained as a member of the IDF, the Israel Defense Forces. At age 18, service for their country is mandatory for Israeli citizens. We call this conscription, meaning that the government gets a hold of you for a very specific purpose.
If you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, you may not know it, but you too, have been conscripted! You have been selected, actually, created, by God for what the Bible calls “good works,” that God prepared in advance for you to do (Ephesians 2:10).
Here’s the big picture: Jesus is definitely returning to earth but until then, the Bible calls followers of Jesus, the Body of Christ (1Corinthians 12:27). We are to be the hands, the feet, the voice of Jesus, doing His work. You. And me.
But we don’t have to be overwhelmed. As the parts of the human body all have different functions, God has a job that fits you perfectly. Have no idea what it is? The Bible book of Titus says, “And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful” (Titus 3:14). I guarantee that there are urgent needs all around you. Find one and meet it today, in Jesus’ name.
