God Is Bigger Than Your Problem

Speaker: Darlene Sala | Series: Encouraging Words | Scientists recently discovered in space the largest ball of hot gas that has yet been found. “The size and velocity are truly fantastic,” says one of the physicists who discovered it.

And just how big is this ball of gas?  Well, to cross it traveling at the speed of light would take you—hold your breath–3 million years! If you want to look at it another way, it’s 5 billion times larger than our own solar system.[i] Truly mind-boggling!

I get excited when I read things like this because that gives me a hint of how great our God is. Obviously, the person who makes something is greater than what he makes, so God is greater by far than the incredible size of this newly discovered object in space.

I’m immediately reminded of Psalm 8, that says,
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
above the heavens.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
(Psalm 8:1, 4-5)

David, who wrote this Psalm, says the heavens are the work of God’s fingers. It’s almost as if God decided one day to do some arts and crafts, so He created the universe. Then David asks, “In light of the tremendous universe that You have created, what is man that You think of him and care for him?” Now, that’s the most mind-boggling thought of all—that a God who is so great cares about insignificant you and me. Yet scripture tells us to cast all our anxiety on him because God “cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

I don’t know how big the problem is that you’re dealing with today.  But I can assure you of one thing: God is bigger—and He cares. Talk to Him about it right now.
